My grandfather Robert Scott Vivian: I inherited not only his name but precious abiding love for fly fishing and rivers.

Basari University, Samsun, Turkey, 2014

For years I resisted getting a website from too many factors to list here. But foremost among them was the notion that I had not yet found my voice, even though I had published other works. Then I had the great good fortune of traveling and teaching in Turkey and fairly steeping myself in the cultural traditions of Rumi: I'm still recovering. I came back to the states with my whole heart lit on fire. And so my everlasting gratitude to all the gobsmacked ones, Mandelstam, Hafiz, Neruda, Dickinson, and so, so many others: "thou movest me, thou movest me, thou movest me"--and now I am free.

co-written with the poet Richard Jackson
Very brief description goes here
In this third and final volume of the trilogy, Vivian weaves the voices of Lem, Jackson, and Lem's estranged wife, Lissa, into an American triptych of longing, remembering, and innocence--of hopes almost fulfilled and inevitably disappointed--as we race to Jackson's reckoning with history that must have its day.
“Robert Vivian’s prose is lyrical and harrowing—harrowing in the Biblical sense.”
“Robert Vivian is one of the finest, most lyrical essayists of his time.”
–Sue William Silverman
